For most of my life I dreaded Valentine’s Day. It was a day that highlighted my lack. Lack of a boyfriend. Lack of pursuit. Lack of flowers, chocolate, and teddy bears. Lack of a date. Lack of someone to hold my hand. I spent a lot of Valentine’s Days at home, avoiding going out and […]

She was wondering if she could ever be free. Freedom seemed to be far off in the distance from where she was, trapped by lies her in the prison cell of her mind. She looked around her, thinking everyone had it “all together” and she was the only one falling apart. She stared in the […]

I had a funny interaction yesterday with a kind, well-meaning individual who was trying to offer some encouragement. The words didn’t come out as I’m sure they intended when they said, “Rachael, you’ve lost weight! You’re starting to look so pretty!” I just had to laugh a little because it was meant as a compliment, […]

From Peer to Fear I remember sitting in my ninth grade Sunday school class hearing about peer pressure. The example was someone standing on a chair trying to pull another friend up onto the chair with them. No matter how hard she tried, it was much easier for the friend on the ground to pull […]

Everyone has a story to tell. However, a lot of our stories we want to hide. The past has a way of controlling the present and the struggles of our daily lives become a burden we carry alone in an attempt to cover up our brokenness. We weren’t meant to live this way. Our heart […]

After living 18 years under my parents roof, the thought of living elsewhere and being on my own was exciting and nerve-wracking. I had waited my entire life for this moment. I remember as a young girl thinking that once I reached my college years I would feel like an adult. The opposite was true! I felt even younger walking onto that large campus and sitting in classes with hundreds of other students! I couldn’t wait for my college years to come, but once they arrived I felt completely unprepared.

Grow: Undergo natural development by increasing in size and changing physically; progress to maturity. Develop, come into existence, increase, become gradually or increasingly. We talked about planting – the painful but necessary process for growth. And we talked about flourishing, how just saying the word flourish sounds lovely and fun. There’s something beautiful about the idea […]

There’s a story of a traveling pastor who came to town and taught at a church about what it meant to follow Jesus. At the end of the night, a man approached the pastor with a concerned look on his face and asked earnestly, “If I follow Jesus, does that mean I have to give […]

God uses the least likely to make much of His great name. Today we are talking about calling and excuses and why the gospel trumps our inadequacies.
