As we enter into a season filled with activities, food, and to-do lists galore, I’m challenging myself to be present. I tend to get caught up in the mix of all the things, people, and places that I miss just being present with Jesus. What if this year we were starkly aware of God’s presence as we celebrate both Thanksgiving and Christmas? What if we didn’t have any regret on December 26th? Friends, let’s not dream of what if’s. By God’s grace, let’s make them into a reality. With our eyes, let us see the hands of God at work as we travel, create, and prepare. With our hands, let us serve one another in the name of Jesus, fellowshipping with Him as we get down on our knees to scrub floors, wipe snotty noses, and cook family recipes. With our feet, let us walk to stores, to homes, to schools, and share the love of Christ. With our mouths, let us praise the Lord for all He is doing, pray with expectancy, and offer words of life to those around us in desperate need of hope.
What if we made the holidays not about us, but about Christ? I believe this would be the most joyful season we’ve ever had. When the pie gets burnt, the strand of lights goes out on the Christmas tree because of one bulb, the traffic is so bad you are late for the party, we won’t whine or complain…we will worship.
Let us worship with our whole hearts and give thanks, not only with our mouths, but with our thoughts, our gifts, our service, our everyday routine, and our schedules. It’s about Him. Let us adore Him, now and forevermore.
