When the reality of the storm threatened the disciples’ little kingdom, they forgot the strength of God who was with them on the boat. They let fear rule their hearts and doubted the love of their friend, Lord, teacher and master. They doubted His goodness because the reality of the situation seemed too much to handle. But Christ was always there – just as He was – and that was enough.
What would it look like for us to seek the God of peace more than we beg for the peace of God? What if we chased after the Deliverer of our souls more than we longed for deliverance from our circumstance?
We’ve so enjoyed studying Flourish the past three weeks. We’re recapping our week Three on Joy, and asking the Lord to reveal His grace to us so that we can walk forward, rejoicing always. Here’s a look at week four: Peace. We pray that the peace of God that passes all understanding would guard your minds and hearts in Christ Jesus.
To the one whose beautifully messy day to day never seems to measure up to the always climbing invisible mark of social media perfection. To the one who never feels like enough but in the same breath feels like too much. To the one who hands out handfuls of grace so freely but can’t seem to receive it for yourself… This letter is for you.
When those little half-truths and whole lies sneak into our hearts, the only victory we have throughout the day is to rely on the Spirit for strength to believe the Word of God rather than listen to the emotions of our heart. This is how we walk forward in joy, regardless of our circumstance, and rest in the peace that God provides to His daughters!
We know that joy comes in the morning, but how do we remain joyful in hope and patient in affliction? How do we rejoice always when the seasons of mourning are longer than expected?
