A Life Lived Beautifully: Sarah Brown

December 5, 2014  - By Well-Watered Women

Meet Sarah.

Sarah is another Instagram friend who is also a creative and journal creator! Sarah founded Glowing Local, and desires to see women shine bright for Christ in the places they live! She loves Jesus with all her heart and has created a journal designed to help women pray for their husbands. I have one and cannot recommend it enough. This journal is so well thought out and it is going to be an incredible tool to use! I can only imagine the beautiful things God will do as we get on our knees for our husbands and pray BIG prayers. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy meeting Sarah!

Introduce yourself like we are having a cup of coffee together. What kind of coffee/tea would you drink?
Hi!  I’m Sarah, wife to my hubby Rob, and mom to a spunky, fire-starter, red-headed little 3 year old boy. I recently started a creative business Glowing Local, and I’m having to trust in the Lord BIG time right now through all that it entails. Our family lives in Greenville, SC, and we do so much outside in this great city. I’m a tea kind of girl – loving chai lattes and hot cinnamon spice tea right now.
What is your definition of a “life lived beautifully”?
I think “living beautifully” really means “reflecting beautifully” in all senses of the terms. If I can know Jesus, abide in Him, come to His feet daily…and then reflect that to others…that to me is a truly beautiful life.

When did you start following Jesus?
I grew up going to summer camp, and became a Christian one summer in high school. But, I am still trying to figure out the whole “following Christ” thing. I can remember times when I thought I was really seeking God, but when I look back at those times now, I realize how little I knew about God back then. I probably will feel the same way when I look back on this time in my life!
What are some verses you constantly cling to and bring life to your soul?
Psalm 16 has been a real power-house for me right now. “I have set the Lord always before me” – gosh, I wish that could be my daily anthem. Also, there are many days when I feel like all I can say is “preserve me, oh God”…especially in these raising-of-a-toddler years!
How do you integrate sharing the Gospel with creativity?
From a behind the scenes standpoint, I am trying to make daily business decisions in my creative business that reflect the Gospel. For example, it’s natural to want a business to make money, but early on, I felt like Glowing Local was supposed to give away a lot of its profit.  Right now, we’re working with a local food bank in our city. I hope decisions like these, within my creative business, are ways the Gospel can tangibly be seen through Glowing Local.

Where did you get the idea for the your prayer journal?
I created the Praying for your Husband journal because I am actually horrible at the whole prayer thing. I needed a way to stay focused and pray specifically. I pray Scripture, so the journal became a way for me to organize Scripture in categories so I could be deliberate about praying for my husband…especially when I am not so great at staying focused during prayer!
What is your vision for your ministry “Glowing Local”?
I started Glowing Local after I felt like the Lord was practically shouting at me, over the course of many months, to do it (I’ve got that thick-skull thing down pat). My vision is really just to keep my actual vision on God.  If I can keep from glorifying me, and instead continue to look towards God, I think it will be the ministry God has put on my plate to accomplish.

What are some of your favorite books to read?
I read all the time, so the list is long. Favorite recent Christian reads include Every Bitter Thing is Sweet by Sara Hagerty, Abundant Simplicity by Jan Johnson, and Treasuring Christ When My Hands are Full by Gloria Furman.  For fun reads, enjoyed The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer, and Carry On Warrior by Glennon Melton.  I could go on and on!!

If you could do anything for the glory of God, what would it be?
Glowing Local!  It’s been my dream for over a year, and I am finally doing it.  Also, if I could get a month-long babysitter, and rent an amazing cabin somewhere in the mountains, and read lots of books, and hike all the time, and eat lots of cheese dip and guacamole…I’d definitely figure out how to do that for the glory of God too.
If you could tell every woman reading this blog one thing God has laid on your heart, what would it be?

Come to Jesus every day. Read his Word and meditate on it.  Adore Him.  You can have lots of cool Christian books, great resources, and Bible-verse-home-decor, but it’s really about getting out that Bible and spending time in it every day. Start there!
