Earlier this year we planned on releasing an Advent resource to encourage you to treasure Christ the days leading up to Christmas. As I was writing and praying through Advent, I knew the Lord wasn’t calling me to finish it this year and instead wait until next year. Little did I know, at the same time He was giving my sister a vision for Advent unlike any I’ve heard. The two words she used to describe it when she called me were “Advent Experience.” Her desire was not only for women to read words during Advent, but also that they would experience Christ through the Word. We knew right away why the Lord had postponed my writing to next year and Kara started writing each day to complete this devotional.

In the early morning hours, she woke up before her children to write and pour her heart before the Lord. The result of her “holy discontent” was this 25-day Advent journey. My sister and I did not grow up regularly taking part in the Advent tradition. Our parents intentionally pointed us to Christ during the Christmas season and days leading up to December 25th, but it wasn’t until recent years that we began to take part in Advent. We believe this Advent Experience will be completely different than any you have done in years prior. 

“He Is: Experiencing the Power of Jesus’ Name” combines narrative prose with a fictional story that will captivate your heart and meet you right where you are. Throughout this fictional story featuring Sarah and Ruth, you’ll be introduced to the four names of Jesus that are listed in Isaiah 9:6—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. You’ll be given specific Scripture to study, questions to ponder, and ways to embrace who Jesus is in your Christmas celebrations. My mom and I worked alongside Kara to write the reflection questions as well as experiences. Our prayer is that your heart will be enlarged and your vision cleared as you look to Christ in Scripture and see Him in your every day life. 

I know you’ll be blessed by my sister’s writings and creativity, and I believe you’ll be challenged, encouraged, and inspired as you participate in this Advent Experience.
