I used to believe I was a princess living in a magical fairy tale. As a child, my days were filled with make-believe games that my Prince was searching for me to rescue me from my despair (which was no despair at all!). The reason I thought I was a princess is because my parents told me I was one. I watched every Disney fairytale move there was and memorized every word. My mind was constantly filled with princess dreams and it affected how I saw myself.
Lately, the Lord has been bringing me back to this kind of thinking. What am I filling my mind with each day? What takes residence in my thoughts? As Matthew 6:21 says, where is my treasure? For far too long, I have talked about longing to fill my mind with Scripture instead of the latest instagram posts, but the action steps haven’t been there. Sisters, I want my mind to be filled with truth, with the lovely things of God and not the fleeting things of this world. Do you long for this as well? If so, join me in memorizing the Word.
Let’s fill our minds with the truth and the with the glorious, life-giving Words of the Bible. Instead of flipping to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook when we pick up our phones, let’s open the Word (or Scripture notecards) and think on the lovely things of God. Philippians 4:8 says:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.”
What if we censored what went into our minds with this criteria: true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. Our hours spent would look radically different. But I am ready for this change. I am ready to be fully saturated in God’s Word throughout the day and not just the morning. I am ready to get warmed by the “fires of meditation” (read this incredible Desiring God post!). Because, guess what? Philippians 4:8 holds a promise for us in verse 9:
“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me–put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
Peace. We are promised the peace of God. I long that for that. And God is ready to give it. Let’s think on the lovely, together! If you are with me, comment below with your email and the verses you are going to start memorizing! I am going to start memorizing Psalm 84, Matthew 6, and Colossians 3. Let’s hold each other accountable to fill our hearts and minds with the lovely, life-giving Words of God. What if we really did this? I believe our worlds and our lives would be drastically different- for the glory of God and the spread of the Gospel.
Let’s do this.
