Taste & See

June 16, 2014  - By Gretchen Saffles

The Lord has been leading me into a new recognition of the sweetness of spending time in His presence. As my schedule has begun to fill up and change, I have realized even more-so the treasure of going before His throne at any moment. Anyone else have a crazy busy schedule? Feeling in over your head? Feeling exhausted, weary and heavy-laden? I know I have been. That's when the Lord led me to the life-giving Scripture of Deuteronomy 33:24-27.
(1) "As your days, so shall your strength be." Whatever you have ahead today and this week, God has given you strength and grace for each day - exactly what you need to live abundantly in the name of Jesus!

(2) "The eternal God is your dwelling place." Our home isn't here, it is with the Lord in Jesus. Dwell in The Lord today and seek His face continually in all things. In Christ do we have peace, hope and joy!

I pray these verses encourage you, fill you and remind you of the joy it is to serve an eternal God!

Also, I wanted to share with you my FAVORITE cookie recipe. It originally came from a Southern Living cookbook. I remember walking into the house when I was little to the smell of fresh baked cookies! These are still a favorite and everyone is guaranteed to love them! Here's what you need:

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Stir in:

  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Bake at 375º for 8-9 minutes. If you like them gooey, take them out early! Let them sit on the baking sheet and they will be perfect!

much love!

Gretchen

I want to thank you for being an encouragement for children in Christ who may be struggling with his/her journey in life. I discovered your blog from a friend of mine and I have been hooked ever since. You remind me of the importance of prayer, studying God’s word, and sitting in the Father’s presence. So, again, many thanks for being obedient to the will of God. I’m wondering when you will be starting the next online Bible study? Thanks in advance for all you to help build the Kingdom!

Phoebie, thank you so much for your encouragement! It means the world to me! This was exactly what I needed to hear. Praise the Lord! I am actually working on a study on Grace and the book of Ruth that will hopefully be out mid to late July. This next time I will have a hard copy available for women to use along with their journals and will also be putting up blog posts with it. I am going to take some time off from blogging to work on the study. Would you be praying that God would give me wisdom as I seek Him and study this book? I am excited for all that He is going to do! Thank you, my sweet sister in Christ, for being a light to me this morning!
