Finding Purpose in Our Days As a single woman with a part-time job in a rural town, it’s all too easy to find myself subconsciously slipping into the belief that the things I do aren’t all that important.  “If your circumstances were different, your life would matter more,” this lie whispers on the worst of […]

More than Entertainment Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime are a delightful convenience. The myriad of choices has us queuing up our watch lists until our eyes glaze over and, within this world of high stimulus entertainment, we become blind to the pitfalls that threaten to undercut our spiritual zeal and steadfastness.   […]

bitter peel If you have ever bitten into the skin of citrus fruit, you know the strong, sour taste that immediately hits your tongue. Adults know the skin isn’t meant to be eaten, so we peel away the bright outer layer before sinking our teeth into a tangerine. But babies often have to learn this […]

We’ve all been there: spending too much time on our phones and too little time in the present moment. For such a small device that can fit in the palms of our hands, it’s amazing how much power our phones or tablets have over our hearts. I’m a firm believer that we don’t have to […]

Happy APRIL dear friends! We can’t believe how fast the year has gone, but as we head into a new month and a new season, we are thrilled for what’s ahead. This month we will begin an eight-week, in-depth study of Ephesians using our Walk In Grace journal as a guide. This journal uses a […]

“How do you grow a following?” she asked. I cringed at the question, because I know firsthand that numbers can shackle our souls and trip us up if they become our driving ambition in life. I’m asked this question quite often, and it’s honestly one that I wrestle with answering well. Our society is built […]

You can subscribe to their blog for weekly updates and more material that will encourage you to lead like Jesus! “How old are you?” It’s one of the first questions I was asked when […]

“I just want to quit.” -me (and most likely you)

If you’ve been reading this blog or following me for any length of time, you’ve probably noticed that I share a lot about social media. I’ve wrestled with the use of technology and the ability it has to strip us of our passions and trip us with comparison. But I’ve also wrestled with the potential it has to be used for good and for God’s glory. When I read any of Paul’s letters in the New Testament, I see him using arguments and means that were known to the people he was reaching to share about Jesus. Paul addressed the people right where they were with the power and hope of the gospel. There was no social media during the time he wrote his letters to the church, but he was passionate about reaching people in their own various contexts. While society looks different than during Jesus’ time, the principles and timeless truths of Scripture still apply to us today. The Great Commission is still a command to us, and it’s our role as Jesus-followers to wrestle through the countless ways we can reach people and shine the light of Christ in a dark world.

Motivation is a curious thing. We can be motivated by things so easily – sometimes recognized, other times subconsciously. When we recognize something that compels us into action, it’s easier to get moving and make a choice that brings us satisfaction. We choose to eat healthy all day so we can reward ourselves with a […]
